a "garage" sale worth every mao.
it has taken me too long to sit down to write about the wonderful things that happened before our sale, at the sale and after.
we had a lot to sell. a lot. before the sale i imagined all kinds of possible scenarios that could take place during the sale. mostly negative scenarios. and then i would imagine my overly emotional response. mostly because i feared the sale would be a flop. mostly because i needed to remind myself that this sale was different. we were not selling stuff to get lots of money in our pocket book. nope. we were selling stuff [that many, many people donated] to help us raise money to bring our daughter home.
God totally exceeded our expectations. our amazing friends helped us set up all night and were at the sale the entire time. at the sale a woman came with her husband. bought many things, went home and brought her parents back. the second time there was a different guy with her. it was her uber driver! while he was driving her to our home she told him all about our sale and the purpose. the driver asked if he could come too. mr. uber driver bought about 30 rmb worth of stuff, but gave me 100 rmb because he wanted to give more.
at the end of the sale a friend of a friend was shopping late. she felt so burdened to help more. she realized there was still a lot of stuff to be sold. so she offered to load it all in her car and sell it on the street at night for us! what??! we loaded about 25 large garbage bags full of clothes into her car.
oh and you probably want to know how much we raised, right? in 6 hours we raised around 10,000 rmb, about $1,500. and henry, max and oliver raised 400 rmb, $60, at their lemonade & snack stand.
we are so thankful for all the people who donated stuff.
so thankful for all the people who helped me price everything.
so thankful for friends who helped set it up, sell it and tear it down.
we are so thankful.
