Why? part 1

Why?  Everything comes with this question with our 3 year old.  Why? Why? Why?

So, Why did Jesus come?  Why do we celebrate Christmas?  In light of the recent snow falling...

He came to MELT our hard hearts.

After accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior CS Lewis stated that there were “repercussions on the imaginative level.” 

“I felt as if I were a man of snow at long last beginning to melt. The melting was starting in my back—drip-drip and presently trickle-trickle. I rather disliked the feeling.”

The cold of winter illustrating the cold heart as the result of evil in human lives.  The melt, the new life, the new growth, that spring brings.  The transformation that comes from accepting and knowing Christ as my Savior.  “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Cor 5:17  

He came to bring Life, to those who would believe in Him! “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 

He came to make us white like SNOW.  

“Though your sins are like scarlet,

    they shall be as white as snow;

though they are red as crimson,

    they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

He came to reverse the COLD curse: That cold curse of sin...1 John 3:8 The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

In the words of C.S. Lewis, “winter began stirring backwards.”

"To be sure, when Christ comes again, the process of reversing the curse of sin and recreating all things will be complete (1 Cor. 15:51-58). The peace on earth that the angels announced the night Christ was born will become a universal actuality. God’s cosmic rescue mission will be complete.

Christmas is the celebration of this process begun and the promise that it will one day be completed.”
