There are a lot of ways one can show love to another: take the garbage out, rub your wife's back, cook dinner, clean up the house, make a meal for a neighbor.  But rarely would one be willing to die for another.  

God’s love goes the distance...

“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:6-8

One only needs to read the news headlines or hang out downtown for a period of time to realize that our world is hurting and broken.  There is sin, sorrow, and death all around.   Sin, sorrow and death plague all cultures.  In Jesus there is hope, there is healing, there is life.  In Jesus alone there is the remedy for sin sorrow and death.

He came to erase our debt and declare us Righteous.  This is the story of Christmas.  This is why we sing songs of Joy to the World.  He was “Born that man no more may die.  Born to raise the sons of earth.  Born to give them second birth.”

This story is the greatest story ever told.  Unlike the spellbinding thrillers on the shelf of Barns N Noble, this story is True.  I fear that I have read this story too much, that I have lost the awe and wonder.  God Incarnate! That should stir a lot of Awe in me, not just some-Awe.
