3 and a bon bon.

a few days ago i looked at the calendar and realized my son was turning

3 1/2 the next day.

i was surprised because i had been telling the locals that he is 3 1/2

for the past 2 months.

let me first start by saying we don't usually celebrate 1/2 birthdays, but i think we may have stumbled into a new tradition here in china.  

"H you are turning 3 1/2 tomorrow."

"you mean it is MY BIRTHDAY tomorrow?"

"well...your half birthday."

"so, how are we going to celebrate tomorrow mom?"

"ummmmm... we'll see."

we told chad when he got home and he jokingly said we should make bon bons!

ha.  1.  3 1/2 in chinese is pronounced sān suì bàn...sounds like sawn sway bon.  now you understand why chad encouraged the makings of bon bons.

and 2.  i didn't know bon bons were real.  i thought they were something people figuratively ate while sitting on the couch being lazy.

the next morning i googled bon bons.  found a simple recipe and H and M and I headed to the market to buy oreos.

we put a package of chocolate oreos in our blender and crushed them real fine.  then we mixed in 1/2 package of cream cheese we had in our fridge.  we rolled them into balls.  stuck them in the freezer.  took them out and dipped them in melted chocolate.  sprinkled some of our valentine sprinkles from last year on top. and ta da!!!

bon bons do exist.  and they are yummy.
