the big 30!

my wonderful husband turned the big 3-0.

H helped me make the birthday cake the day before.

we made a dairy queen cake.  and it was so good.

chocolate ice cream.  oreos {that we scraped the cream out of}. homemade chocolate fudge sauce. vanilla ice cream.  and some yummy whipped cream.

seriously.  H had a smile plastered on his face the entire day while we prepared to treat dad the next day.

on saturday H made dad breakfast in his own kitchen while i made chad's favorite breakfast.

bacon and cheesy hashbrowns.

i think it was a treat because hashbrowns in my opinion are not a easy thing to make here.

wash.  peel.  shred.  squeeze.  and fry.

so worth it though for the one you love!

after breakfast we got ready and went to a street in our city called

ping shan dao.

H really needed new shoes and being the selfless man chad is,

he suggested we go shoe shopping.

chad always loves going somewhere we haven't been and discovering new places.

yes.  we found some new shoes for H.  he loves them.  not because they are comfortable or because they don't pinch his toes like the elmo shoes.  he loves them because they light up.  yes.  they light up.  

now if you remember my squabble with his elmo shoes, you might already guess that i am not a fan of light up shoes.  i am not a fan.  but.  H likes them.  he stomped all over the store just to see the eyes

on the character light up.  and we bought them.  

he thinks that the character is mickey mouse.  mickey mouse is not on them.  it is some knock off mickey mouse with kind of creepy googly eyes.  but H thinks it is mickey mouse.  oh well.  stomp away with your shoes, little guy and watch the eyes light up.

after ping shan dao we headed over to bin jiang dao.  it is a huge area with little shops and lots of dongxi {stuff}.  and also department type stores.  i found these lovely glasses H is wearing at one of those little shops.  i wanted to find some for the baby to wear as a little photo prop when he is born.  H however has taken the liberty of wearing them all the time until baby is born.  some of you may {maybe all of you} be asking...why?  these type of glasses are very popular amongst the korean and chinese young adults {sometimes older}.  they wear them without lenses.  just the frame.

so fashionable, huh?

do you see the man in the leather jacket that has clearly passed H and is still looking at him.  so confused i am sure.  and the two girls next to H that can't hold their laughter in.  

one thing is for sure.  H loves to make people laugh.

it comes so easy for him to brighten someones day and make them giggle.

when someone asks H how old he is, he answers them in chinese.

and they giggle.

or he just smiles at people and they laugh.

or when he brakes out in song at the top of his lungs while we walk home.  they stare and then laugh.

the glasses are just another way H makes people laugh.

by request from the birthday boy, we ate dinner at papa john's.  

when we got home H put the candles in the ice cream cake and helped the new 30 year old blow out his candles.

we ended the night by watching a movie.

it was such a great family day.

both H and i are so thankful for the way God knit together chad just perfectly.
